As a dedicated fan of VR fitness games, I’m always on the lookout for fun and immersive ways to stay in shape. The VRgames we’re looking at not only provide engaging workouts but also offer experiences that are challenging or even impossible to replicate in real life.​

These vrgames for fitness have turned home workouts into immersive, high-energy experiences that are actually fun. After over a year of using the Meta Quest 3, I’ve compiled a list of top VR fitness games that deliver excellent workouts. Some of these I’ve personally enjoyed, while others come highly recommended by the VR fitness community. To make it easier to find the perfect fit for your workout style, I’ve organized them into three categories: rhythm-based workout games, intense VR boxing titles, and other movement-packed sports simulations. Let’s jump straight into our list.

Rhythm & Fitness-Based Games

Beat Saber – The OG, fast-paced, full-arm motion

To start with, we have the original Beat Saber VR fitness game; by now, this game is a classic and it has such a high rating for all the reviews it has acquired over the years. It’s classified as a rhythm/arcade style of game because it focuses on music/beats that are made to match the flying objects zooming past you. The aim is to hit or slay the objects as they come forward, which then results in a score at the end.

What I really like about Beat Saber is the dynamic space-themed environments. Unlike some VRgames that look a bit plain, this one offers polished visuals that feel immersive straight from the headset. It definitely makes the workout more enjoyable. That said, this VRgame is very beat-focused, so if loud or intense music isn’t your thing, it might not be the best fit for you.

Supernatural is a very similar option to Beat Saber, only this one features more earthly environments with what’s more like a virtual personal trainer experience. You follow along with real fitness coaches who guide you through full-body workouts set to curated playlists, ranging from pop to hip-hop and beyond. This one is also very music based and Supernatural does require a subscription too, so if you’re looking for something you can own from a single purchase, this isn’t a good option. It’s also rated as an 18+, as it has themes not suitable for younger audiences. Having said that, this is another vrgame with a ton of popularity and community giving it high ratings.

Pistol Whip – Combines shooting with squats and dodging

​This high-energy VRgame uniquely blends rhythm-based shooting with physical movement, offering both an exhilarating experience and a solid workout. In this game, you’re propelled through stylized, action-packed scenes where enemies appear in sync with a pulsating soundtrack. Your objective is to eliminate these adversaries by shooting or melee attacks while simultaneously dodging incoming bullets and obstacles. While shooting style games are not always the choice of fitness seekers, it does provide training for quick reflexes, full body movement and precise aiming.

Boxing VR games

Thrill of the Fight – Most realistic boxing sim, no nonsense, calorie burner

This was one of the first VRgames I purchased on the meta quest 3 and I was very impressed then and it still impresses many people today. It’s a great workout particularly for boxing. You get to choose from a selection of AI opponents ranging from easy mode to difficult, you can set the scene from mix reality to full VR where you’re put into a boxing ring and you can track all your punches and scoring at the end.

It’s a great vrgame that is sure to get you breaking a sweat without even realising you’re working out. Most people that I’ve known to try it all find it really competative and immersive at the same time. I’ve tried other VR boxing games like The Fight and this one seems to be more user friendly and engaging. The Fight does have some good training workouts though, maybe some of the best I’ve seen for boxing VR. It allows you to work with a trainer and hit the pads, play around with speed bags, and just has bigger range of boxing bags for the training that I’ve seen compared to other vrgames.

Of course, you’ve got the classics like Creed: Rise to Glory, and that is also a very highly rated game but it does have a high price tag for a vrgame.

Thrill of the Fight II – Boxing sim for online multiplayer only

You might think this is just a newer version of the original Thrill of the Fight, but it actually feels like a completely different vrgam, at least for now. That’s because it’s still in development, eventhough it’s already available to play in early access. Even at this stage, I’d say it’s one of the best vr games for fitness because it gives me one of the most intense workouts in in VR.

The game itself is fairly simple: you’re matched against other players online, either in a virtual boxing ring or using mixed reality. You can win by knockout or on points. Most matches tend to go the distance and end in a points decision, although there are still some issues with how the scoring works, which can take away from the realism a bit. That said, the developers are actively working on improving the system to better reflect real boxing matches, and they’ve already done an impressive job, especially when it comes to defensive boxing mechanics.

This vrgame really pushes you when it comes to stamina, lateral movement, and keeping your guard up. It’s highly immersive and physically demanding, so make sure you’ve got enough space when playing in full VR, you’ll forget about your real-world surroundings quickly. Also, as with any online multiplayer game, be prepared to run into a few players who try to spam punches, rage quit, or bend the rules. But overall, there’s a strong community, and when you get a good opponent, it makes the match feel incredibly rewarding.

PUNCH FIT – MR Edition

PUNCH FIT is a VR and mixed reality vrgame that blends real-world visuals with virtual boxing for a fun and active fitness experience. It’s abit like a combination of a rhythm and fitness based game and a boxercise class. It’s simple, addictive, and offers a great cardio session without needing a full boxing sim setup. A solid pick among vrgames for fitness, especially if you like the idea of training in your own room.

You get over 100 workouts with this one and they really target your coordination, boxing accuracy and cardio for an awesome workout. This one also has a high rating even though it’s not as popular as the others.

Other Sport VRGames

The Climb / The Climb 2 – Not cardio-heavy but works your arms and grip. Great for toning.

If you want a game that’s both good for fitness and has great environments too, The Climb and The Climb 2 are visually stunning vrgames that simulate free solo climbing across cliffs, mountains, and cityscapes. While they’re not the most cardio-heavy experiences, they do an excellent job of working your arms, shoulders, and grip strength, making them great for toning up particularly for the upper body. The immersive environments and realistic climbing mechanics make each session feel like an adventure more than a workout, and they’re a solid choice if you’re looking for a more relaxed but still physical vrgame.

Paddle VRgame

This is a lesser known VRgame and i’ve included it in the VR games for fitness because it provides a great workout. It’s tennis-style vrgame that’s simple, fun, and surprisingly effective for light cardio and reflex training. While it may not look like a traditional workout, the constant movement, quick reactions, and arm coordination make it a great way to stay active, especially during longer play sessions. The game is easy to pick up but hard to master, which keeps it engaging. While this is supposedly still in the development stage, it has plenty of mini games that are very engaging.

I’ve picked this over other tennis VR games because I think they have done a great job with the physics, it feels very realistic and you have a wide range of movement. That being said, it’s been in the development stages for a while and I’m not sure when we’ll get to see the full version.

Gym Class VR – Basketball-focused multiplayer game; shooting, running, jumping.

This is a fast-paced, basketball-focused vr game that brings multiplayer competition to life. You can shoot, pass, dunk, and even run full-court matches with friends or players online. With realistic physics and motion tracking, it feels very immersive, minus the sweat on the court. It’s a great way to stay active, improve coordination, and sneak in a workout while having fun. And i’s not just for basketball, it also has games for baseball, football, & arcade style vrgames too.

This game also has a ton of very high reviews and engaged communities, it’s one of the most popular titles on the list. While it’s free to download, it works with in app purchases which might not be ideal of everyone especially if you’re wanting a game with a one off payment.

XRWorkout – Barebones but intense; uses hand-tracking and voice commands for pushups, squats, and more—no controllers needed!

If the fancy VR games are not for you, and you just want a game to get you workout out and in the zone, XRWorkout is a no-frills vrgame designed for full-body fitness, but can be intense at the same time. It stands out by ditching the controllers entirely, you’ll use hand-tracking and voice commands to perform real exercises like pushups, squats, jumping jacks, and more.

The minimal design might feel basic for some users, but it’s perfect for anyone who wants a raw, equipment-free workout that actually pushes you physically to get an awesome workout.
